blu dah ba dee dah ba daa

Yes you guessed it blu-ray drives.

Just picked up a blu-ray writer to back up my photos, never bothered before so I thought now would be a good time seen as I hit 100GB of images.

I did have a DVD-Writer but honestly i didn't fancy the prospect of sitting there for about 12 hours and swapping discs that much.

Blu-ray is so much faster and obviously the disc capacity is much greater. The coatings used on the discs are supposed to be tougher than DVD's too so from an archive stand point its a win win.

This drive is also about 10 times quieter than my last one too which is an added bonus.

Ok geek mode over.

Photographing a club night tonight for a friend, should be fun, but the first time i have done something like that... hope the batteries last in my flash gun.

HDR shots

What is it with the current craze in HDR shots? ok some do look fantastic but for every fantastic shot, there are 100 others that just look... well too over the top I guess? Is it just me or would you rather see the HDR a little less and people work on exposure, composition and proper colour, contrast and tone balancing? OK I know I have a long way to go in this respect my self but surely one should try to improve their core photography skills before trying to wow every one with an in your face beyond hyper real HDR?

OK rant over :)

btw for any one who is curious.... loving the 5DMk2 but it's costing me a fortune now with more things I want to do and things I want to accompany it ;)

Also loving my Sony PRS-505 e-book reader, what better toy for a gadget mad book worm?

Any way finally got to the zoo to do some shots, you can see some of the results in the gallery.

Mightily impressed with the hi iso capabilities and at 1600-3200 it makes my old 300D look noisy at iso400!!!
